My Zoom poll outsmarted me

Ran a low-stakes med-calc pulse check in Zoom at 07:30 using Mentimeter, and the live word cloud instantly spelled ‘coffee’ three times before a single correct dose appeared — so much for my engagement strategy. What’s your funniest virtual teachable moment when the tech or the students hijacked your plan?

FMD — the only one that can trigger a “standstill in hours.” Caveat from the swine side: Senecavirus A can look identical at the lesion stage, so reflex serotyping/confirm at the reference lab is the sanity check after the screen… @tj1994 are you seeing same‑day reflex built into alerts now?

Been there — my 0800 calc check morphed into a latte art contest. I now start with a 20‑sec decoy word cloud (“what’s in your mug?”), then switch the real dose to a quiz slide with number entry and “hide results” until 70% answer; the timer and the “correct answer explanation” pop-up help too.

At 07:30 my students also hijacked my Mentimeter word cloud with “coffee,” so I switched to a Type Answer quiz with numeric validation and a 15‑second timer, then locked responses before revealing. Have you tried the Quiz Competition mode to force a number and auto‑mark? It kills the cute clouds, but it keeps the dose calc warm‑up honest.
